It’s easy to write off the phrase of “follow your dream” as something for kids. Some fairytale not meant for a thirty-year old. A statement that holds no true weight and really doesn’t mean anything.
“Sure, I’ll follow my dream, once the bills start paying themselves.”
“Follow your dream…. what a crock… a statement of nothing… a statement that’s for my kids, at least until they need their own health insurance.”
“No one ACTUALLY ‘follows their dream’, everyone just does what they need to do, not what they want to do. Wake up. Dreams aren’t real. You better get a job and take care of yourself. You’re not lucky like those other people. You better wake up.”
…”I’m going to be an astronaut when I grow up!” … “Oh yeah! I’m gonna be the president!”…
…”Dad says I either go to college or start paying rent or move out…” … “I guess accounting is kind of cool, there’s a good job market for it…”
…”My wife is giving the kids the same lecture I heard when I was 18… I didn’t want to go to school either, but at least I was able to get this job and take care of my family… It’s a good job… I don’t love it, but it pays the bills… I mean, no one loves their job… I like what I’m doing more than Jim… He always talked about being president as a kid but then he just kept working at the same restaurant that he worked at in high school. He’s still there. At least I’m not like, Jim.” …
… “I can’t believe I lost my job… I didn’t even really like it, but what the hell am I going to do now?!” …
… “After 40 years of working and providing for myself and my family… After 40 years of waking up every day and doing exactly what I had to do… After 40 years of getting to know life, I can only think and ask one question…”
“Why wasn’t I an astronaut?…”
There is nothing on this Earth that will ever replace living your dream. You either live your dream or wait for your death.
