Once You Show Yourself You Can, You Will

A lot of us are pretty scared to do something we’ve never done. It’s uncomfortable to come out of our comfort. I love the quote, “To have something you’ve never had, you have to do something you’ve never done.”

A lot of us can get behind the idea of wanting change in our lives that brings more happiness and freedom but we’re so unwilling to make the necessary moves to get to that place. I do understand because I’m human and I like to be comfortable as well. Comfort, though, is the enemy of progress. Comfort is defined as, “a state of physical ease and freedom from pain or constraint.” Searching for a painless existence is a fruitless endeavor. Seeking comfort, in this sense, is to seek an illusion.

Pain is part of the process, it is part of life. Without pain, there is no life. You’re seeking ease through restraining yourself from doing things that will likely bring peace and freedom. Freedom from the idea of a pain-free existence and the freedom to not only feel content but to feel unreasonable joy while within your pain.

Peace is that which should truly be sought after. Peace can only found within yourself. Inner confusion and (dis)ease are correlate with outer realities that are not in line with the longings of one’s heart.

Life might be calling you to quit the job, quit the relationship, move to a new country, invest in the business opportunity… Life will not wait forever. You are going to die someday. And you will have died not without having been given a mission to complete that would have brought life to your life, but you will have died in your pursuit of the comfort-illusion. Inevitably you realize that your daily avoidance of movement and change brought about only feelings of immense discontentment and, that’s right, discomfort.

Search for the struggle… that’s where you’ll find peace.
