One of the biggest things that holds people back from doing exciting things with their lives is indecision. It’s such a terrible habit that plagues so many people. And on every level. Ever had this conversation… “Where should we go to eat?”… “I don’t know, where do you wanna go?”… “I don’t know either, wherever you wanna go.” … “It’s up to you.”… That is essentially what you’re doing with yourself when it comes to doing the big things with your life. “Should I go back to school… Should start this business… Should I stop this business… Should I move… I don’t know. What do you wanna do, self?” And obviously if we can’t even decide between delivery or DiGiorno , how the hell can we make up our minds about some life-altering move?
Well, a good place to start is to begin making small decisions throughout your day (Decide: Delivery or DiGiorno.) Working a schedule into your day and sticking to that schedule will begin to train your mind to not be so wobbly (Probably not a term you’ll find on the GRE. Anyway!) You have a set time for going to the gym, a set time for reading, a set time for working, a set time for working on new projects… Put important things on your schedule and do important things as their scheduled.
Forming the habit of making decisions will strengthen your mind, strengthen your resolve in big decision-making because you will trust yourself more with your own life. Isn’t it a crazy thought that we willingly lay our lives in the hands of another person and allow them to make huge decisions for us. All for the sake of not holding the responsibility of deciding. I think that’s where the issue truly lies. When we make a decision, we hold full responsibility for that decision and can’t place blame on anyone other than ourselves when things go to Hell.
Make decisions, take responsibility, when things turn to shit, own them. You’re not always going to make winning decisions. That’s part of figuring out how to get to the winning ones.
