Every Obstacle Imaginable

Everyone knows the saying, “It’s always darkest before the dawn.” There is so much truth to this statement that it makes me sick. A lot of people quit a few feet before they reach gold because of this little truth. Struggle to the nth degree is the final phase of every story considered a success. There’s not one person that has ever climbed a mountain without losing some breath on the way up.

I keep realizing how much better I feel after I’ve done things I don’t feel like doing that I know I have to do. But how do you do these things when you’re in that darkest-before-dawn moment? You’re not gonna like this answer… I don’t like this answer… The answer is, do it. How do I do what I don’t want to do that I know I have to do when everything imaginable is going against me? Do it.

You don’t need some massive inner momentous movement of motivation to get yourself moving in a better direction. You just start moving. You wake up to your friend, Anxiety, and you do what you know you need to do anyway. You walk through the whole day with your other friend, Depression. But you keep walking. You go to bed at night with that same joker that you woke up with, Anxiety… What a sad story. No happy ending?

Not every day is a happy ending. If you walk through your day and get yourself to do the things you know you need to do in spite of the emotions that have been keeping you close company, there will be days that you fall asleep with Accomplishment rather than Anxiety, wake up with Enthusiasm rather than Anxiety, and walk through the day with Determined Spirit rather than Depression. You’ll have more days like that if you do what you don’t want to do but know you have to do.
