Take a minute, right now, and look around. Take notice of all the beauty and wonderful things you have in your life. This is your life. Let me transition to the first person. This is my life. I am so thankful for the way in which I live it. There are other things I want to do, yes, but I am so thankful for what has already been accomplished. I’m thankful for this coffee in my cup and these words in my heart.
I’m thankful that my normal day consists of spending an obscene amount of time in cafes working on various projects that bring my life more color and meaning. I’m beyond thankful for the love of people that surround me. The unending support from hearts of unending… take stock of all that is wonderful in your life.
Do this daily.
Let your heart catch on fire with the flames of gratitude.
It’s more necessary than any other part of your day. If you have a hard time receiving this message, that’s ok. It’s because you haven’t begun to train your mind in a way that is accepting of what is good. You’re used to accepting only what is bad and worst of all not just accepting what’s bad but expecting only the bad to come. There it is. I called you out on yourself. Get pissed. That’s a good place to be because that energy can generate change, if you let it. Flip the script on yourself.
Rather than saying, “I can’t believe this amazing thing is happening to me”, say, “Of course this is happening to me! I expected this!”… (Some of you have a hard time even imagining that you’d say either statement because your current immediate response is that nothing good ever happens anyway so you don’t even have to worry about distinguishing between the two!) Altering your mind from the natural negative to the supernatural positive does not happen by the time you finish reading a single blog post. It begins to happen after you’ve read many, over many days and many hours. It begins after you’ve gotten around better people more often than you’ve been around terrible people. It begins after listening to speakers and other audios many many times.
There is no destination, only a better way of being today than you were yesterday with a joy of looking forward to who you will be tomorrow. A great friend of mine with a heart the size of Texas, who also happens to make $20,000 a week, summed up what gratitude is in a pretty profound and significant way. Without being grateful, you walk around pissed off and you don’t know why.
