I Don't Feel Like It

If I lived by, “I don’t feel like it,” nothing would ever get accomplished. I would probably just lay in bed and eat pizza until I exploded.

I think one of the hardest things to do is to get yourself into the practice of not waiting to feel like doing something important. But to just do what you know to be important. Discipline means to live by a certain code of behavior that is of value. Discipline has nothing to do with what you or I feel like doing. Once we accept a code of behavior that we believe in and is in line with our truest inner values, the next step is to implement discipline. This implementation will hold us to the standard we know will help us live lives we can be excited about.

There’s nothing worse than not being excited about anything

Every day we wake up is gray-mush-nothing. I want nothing to do with a colorless existence. For you parents out there… what if you just let your kids do whatever they wanted… no bed time, no teeth brushing, only cookies for every meal, no school if they didn’t want to go… Why do we think once we’re adults, we no longer need discipline?

Socrates said, “The undisciplined life is an insane life.”

Do I feel like waking up at 5 or 6 a.m. every day? No. Do I feel like going to the gym and being on the StairMaster for 40 minutes every day? No. Did I feel like having 12-hour study days while going after my Biology degree? No. Did I feel like doing a million takes on certain parts of songs in the studio when I sang in my band? No. Do I feel like eating pizza all day every day? Hell Yes!

If you or I live a life based off of what we feel like doing… We’re fucked.
