The Easy Road

The easy road doesn’t exist as we might like to think that it exists. You should be cautious if anything looks like it’s an easy or quick fix. When we choose easy, we really are choosing just it’s opposite. Easy escape from the pains that accompany every life can quickly take us down a road of drug addiction, alcoholism or even suicide. This same tattered and torn, beat-up road can also be called the easy road. We think one more drink or one more something will alleviate all that ails us, when really it only increases the affliction. It pours salt in the wounds we’re trying desperately to heal. Easy leads to some of the most unimaginable pain you can ever imagine.

On a less extreme end, easy will keep you locked in your house and bound to the same boring life you long for escaping from. It takes more effort than we might like in order to get ourselves in the company of people that will influence us to reach higher levels in our lives.

What’s the effort?

Getting out of bed while we’re having a Netflix and Chill session with our good friend, Anxiety. It’s easy to just lay motionless in a state of disgust with yourself than it is to put on some pants and hang out with cool people that said, “Forget easy.”

Put on some pants, forget easy, and start walking uphill.

Anything of any value is always uphill. Getting a degree in biology is anything but a downhill stroll into easy. At the end of the day… no… at the end of life, when you look over what you’ve accomplished and realize you decided to do the things that weren’t easy, you’ll thank yourself.

“Do what is easy and your life will be hard. Do what is hard and your life will become easy.” – Les Brown
