You're So Positive

People say this to me a lot. I’m not complaining. I wear a big smile pretty often and write about hope and encouragement. So if I did see it as a bad thing, I’m only bringing that on myself. I definitely don’t see it as a bad thing, though, but I do want to make something clear.

My writing is just my attempt to talk myself into the things that I’m talking about.

Often we think that just because it came from the teacher’s lips that he has conquered and acquired all the lessons that are being taught. Some of them, yes. Even most of them, some of the time, yes. But the things I’m talking about are things that I too am attempting to incorporate into my daily life. All of what I speak about I have had experience with, but even having had those experiences of peace and joy and clarity of mind, I still have to remind myself to keep trying. To keep learning. To keep remembering the important things that I’ve learned so far along the way.

All of us are growing together. I really love that about life.

We fall into thinking that the people writing the books and holding the seminars have somehow transcended all human experience. Those people have the same issues and pains as all people. They just found new ways to work with the pain. We can do one of two things with the lives we’ve been given. We can allow the pain we experience to cause within us retreat and seek Fear’s guidance. Or, we can continue on a path of learning, a path of growth and renewal, and a path seeking Love’s guidance.

And maybe when you’re thinking someone like myself is really positive, the opposite is true. Maybe people like me write and speak about these things because we’re way more negative than most people. Our battle to remain positive is so intense and becomes something we truly have to live constantly so that darkness doesn’t overtake us completely.

Maybe those that seem the brightest are the ones that have seen the most darkness.
